My Version of a Vacation

Don't get excited, there was no tropical isle with a beachfront cabana, nor a cabin overlooking a crystal clear lake on some mountain.  I certainly don't have money for anything like that.  I am a stay-cation type of person.  Besides I couldn't let a cat/dog sitter into this disaster of a house.

What I do before I take time off is make a ridiculously long To Do list.  I know, of course, that I will not possibly be able to accomplish everything on the list, but it is a goal to shoot for as well as a way to remember some of things that REALLY need to get done.

I've been off since last Friday, April 19th and I go back to work tomorrow.  I actually surprised myself and got quite a bit more done than usual.  The major stumbling block this time was my back.  I could only do a bit at a time and then have to sit down.  Of course, I ignored the first item on my list and sat down at the computer.  Oh, well.  I never said I was perfect.  Far, far from it, if you have to know.

I will say that the cats and dog seem to get along without me quite well.  If I was home all of the time, Maggie would be going outside at least 27 times a day.  If I stood up, Maggie headed to the back door.  It didn't matter if she had just come inside 15 minutes earlier.  Obviously, since things were boring inside, there was bound to be something more exciting outside.  Add to that, she would expect a treat every time she came back into the house.

So, my list is below.  Whatever is in RED is what I got done.  I have every intention of trying to get to some more of the items this weekend.

    1. The tough stuff is yet to be done - STACKS & STACKS & BINS full of paper!!! YUCK.

Actually I'm pretty impressed myself, which is why I posted it. Getting the dog crate & cat condo outside was a nightmare. I left the condo outside a couple of days because we had a couple of days of torrential rain. I used 3 different vacuums today to try to get the rug in some semblance of clean. I had enough hair to make a St. Bernard.

And the list didn't include the daily chores of washing about 20 bowls, 3 plates (all for the cats) & the dog bowl (by hand, still no dishwasher), plus the daily feeding frenzy. Every time I went near the sink, Cassandra thought it was time to eat. Meow, meow, meow - constantly. Plus dragging/carrying the garbage & recycling to the street twice.

Oh my aching back & swollen ankles. It gets harder & harder to do this stuff, the older I get. But for a broken down old fart I think I didn't do half bad.

    2. PS - I got Revolution on 3 more cats & another litter box scooped since I posted this. Only 18 more cats to go - except 4 are feral & I probably won't succeed at dosing them.

    3. Yikes! I'm so glad we've never had fleas to contend with. Not sure if it's the dry climate or what, but I've never known anyone here who's animals had fleas.

    4. Oh... and I can so totally relate to the vacuuming thing. I bought a new bagless vacuum for the upstairs. It's a cordless model and it makes it much easier not to have to wrestle the canister monster up the stairs all the time. The thing is, when you have a bagless model, you can actually see how much crap is coming out of your carpets... OY!

And Cassandra sounds a lot like Princess. Every time I go in the kitchen she's just SURE it's time to eat... even if she's just eaten a few minutes earlier! Guess starving on the streets for most of your life will do that to you!

Anyhow, sounds like you accomplished an incredible amount. You should be proud!

    5. I actually don't have a flea problem. At least I haven't noticed one, but Revolution takes care of internal parasites & ear mites too.

I took Cassandra & her brothers & sisters from the local animal control (12 years ago). All were starving kittens & I lost all 3 boys within a few days. She had really bad teeth problems and didn't eat much for awhile, until I could afford to have them all removed. She's making up for lost time. She's been vocal since she was tiny.
